koreans in baguio positive and negative effects

Koreans in Baguio positive or negative?

There has been a sudden influx of Koreans over the years, many are coming here due to the fact that education is cheaper compared to other Asian countries, one cannot deny the high quality of English instruction in the Philippines, one cannot deny that Koreans who come here enjoy the luxuries that they would not be able to enjoy in their own country. We have a lower standard of living. In the past I thought that the rising numbers of Korean visitors was a good sign, now I am beginning to think otherwise.
While there are definitely positive effects from Filipino-Korean relationship, we also have to understand the negative impact that it is bringing to the city.

1. Racial prejudice- while not all Koreans have this tendency, many of them practice the habit of demeaning Filipino teachers. How? by letting them perform jobs that are not related to their line of  work. I have heard Filipino Korean tutors being asked to bathe dogs while they have been hired to tutor children. I have heard numerous tutors exclaiming how this Korean student  insult Filipino culture, while they are living in here.Although this is not a trend for all Koreans there are those who do this and they are rising in numbers. Not only that some hire waiters and waitresses and only pay them roughly 3,000 or lower for 1 month's work, truly shameful.

2. inability of Korean businessmen to pay the right taxes, the inability to offer legitimate contracts and fair wages for Filipino workers- this is a sad fact, instead of teachers getting paid for 300 per hour of tutoring hours, some of them pay for 65 pesos only for 1 hour of work for teaching 3 or more students. Clearly taking advantage of the poor working options in the country, while this Koreans have been known for their missionary work in the country, I cannot help but get discouraged with the way they treat their workers, this Koreans call themselves Christians while failing to provide the right wages for their workers.  Rampant number of Korean schools and call centers that are working without proper permits. If they are truly Godly as they say, if they are real Christians they must learn to stop stealing the money of their workers, this Filipino workers give their all, they deserve more.

3. extremely unfair and low wages even in Schools and academies, I have for one tried applying as a teacher, after practicing so hard and passing the numerous tests they have given me, I was shocked to see that my salary would only be 5,000 pesos for 1 month from 8 am to 5pm including Sundays due to the mandatory church attendance. I did not accept it, I did not study in school for this. I can earn better wages from other Filipino based companies and what is truly surprising some of the teachers in this academy located in Camp 7 were never paid and as a result they resigned, during my research this school is not even registered.

4. tricky deals for Korean call centers, some of this call centers trick applicants by letting them work for 2 to 3 weeks without pay, this is truly shameful, they would allow this people to work for free then tell them they will not be accepted after long hours of work and false hope. I have seen this done due to the fact that I have made the research myself, I went to this call center agencies and was surprised with this kind of method being done. Other American based call centers would not do this, People support pay their workers immediately even while on training.

I am wondering what can the city do to protect our workers from this kind of treatment? This Korean schools and call center agencies do not provide benefits, some of them do not pay their workers during the Holidays and mandate them to go to work even when there are raging typhoons. I am wondering why some Filipinos allow this to happen to them. Yes, we need the work and that sometimes we have to be practical, but when i analyze this problem working for this Korean employers is not even practical at all, aside from the low wages, some of them would make you feel inferior in your own country, where is our self dignity?

I am not saying here that Koreans must be hated or that we have to start a war, what I am trying to imply is that it is also our duty to maintain our self respect and dignity when another is trying to spit on our face, yes we need the money to exist, but if we had been more careful, if we have never accepted the low wages, if we have remained united to impose what is due to us  and if some KOrean tutors maintained their dignity and pride we would not be in this situation at all.
